Why I Blog

Life lately has been self reflection and a desire for change. Though, more accurately, I've been experiencing bouts of soul searching followed by crippling avoidance. I ask myself what I want to do with my life, and I find an answer, but somehow is cannot bring myself to get started.

I come back to my neglected blog. I miss blogging. Blogging gets my imagination churning and helps me stay motivated to write and make art. When I am actively blogging, I'm always learning something new. I get to see the world through a camera lens. It raises my awareness of all the beautiful moments in a day. And even if no one reads these words, I still get a thrill when I click "publish" and send a post out into the universe with the hope that it could mean something to someone.

So, as cheesy as this may sound, I'm blogging again with the purpose of recording my creative journey. I don't know where it will take me at the moment, but I am so excited to get started!

I'm Nobody! Who are you?

Emily Dickinson.psd
Oh, Emily, I am nobody too! I've been thinking a lot about who I am recently. According to Eckhart Tolle identification with form is attachment to the ego. By telling you my name is Kathryn is not defining who but explaining what. What I am is a woman, aged 25 years, inhabiting the region of Florida. I love cats and art, and I spend too much time watching movies. I don't know what I want to be when I grow up. I am obsessed with motherhood, and I am studying to become a doula. I can't wait to have a baby of my own one day. I created this blog because I like to make things, and I'm always looking for new inspiration. So here I am, public like a frog, saying I exist, and I am.

Little Black Dress

(Style an LBD.)
Little Black Dress

I went estate sale shopping today and wore my summer LBD. I paired it with my gray Keds from Urban Outfitters and cream tights. I will share my amazing vintage finds from the day soon!

An Old Self Portrait

(Share six-year-old self-portrait.)
Blog Challenge

In 2006, I was a first year at Randolph-Macon Woman's College. I distinctly remember having absolutely no idea what was going on. Ever. Vandalize what historical hitching post? Wear which colors? Decorate whose door? It was such a strange and wonderful place.

I was really happy to discover, as I reviewed some of my old photos last night, that I took a series of pictures of myself around campus; a practice I didn't really continue as an upper class woman. The series primarily features me looking passive and silly.

Zooey Covers

My style icon right now is Zooey Deschanel. Her beautiful music... She & Him has the affect of wrapping me in a warm twee pop blanket; they are comfort tunes that I can completely loose myself in.

Zooey Photobooth

And, of course, I am obsessed with Zooey’s hair. She has been cultivating her darling look with her flowing locks for years. One day I hope to achieve the perfect bang… As Zooey has done.

Blog Challenge

(Sight) Catching up on this week's RE-RECs on HitRECord. Miss Aimeecanto has some really beautiful records to share. Plus, it's super adorable when she says butthole. If you are not familiar with HitRECord, check it out because it's amazing.

(Sound) Listening to the Gramercy Riffs: Oh Linda! It warms my heart that this band got it's name from the 1979 cult classic The Warriors. All the best music comes from Canada and CBC Radio 3.

(Smell) Lighting Sunrise incense for inspiration.

(Taste) Drinking ginseng tea. I think everything tastes better out of my Little Red Riding Hood Teapot.

(Touch) Feeling the rhythm of journaling with a fountain pen. There is something very different about the texture of the words, almost like painting.
